Black Sky

Well, the sky is big, and I am small,
And there's miles between the ports of call,
And I'll never live to see it all,
Though I know I'm bound to try.

Well, the lines are drawn and the course is set,
And I'm sure the best's not happened yet.
Tell the folks back home I don't regret
That I left them for the sky.

Sail away, sail away, we've miles before the morning,
And further still to go before the day.
They say a crimson dawn means all the sailors should take warning,
But a black sky only means it's time for us to sail away.

Well, the sky is big, the sky is black,
You can choose to go but you can't go back,
For the stars define the sailor's track;
You can kiss your home good-bye.

Well, there's lots to lose but there's more to gain,
And I hate to go, though I can't remain,
There are glories there I can't explain,
And it's always time to fly.

Sail away, sail away, we've miles before the morning,
And further still to go before the day.
They say a crimson dawn means all the sailors should take warning,
But a black sky only means it's time for us to sail away.

Oh, the sailors in the old days sailed their ships upon the sea,
But there's not a sea in the universe that's half big enough for me,
For I need the hope of a sea whose scope is too much for a man to see.
I need so much more than a single shore; in the sky, a sailor's free...

Well, the sky is big, the sky is cold,
And the sky won't care when a man grows old,
And I'll sail until my tale's been told
Where no boundaries apply.

Well, I won't be sorry for what I've paid,
For the land and sea that I gave in trade,
For that's one exchange that was gladly made,
Though I never could say why.

Sail away, sail away, we've miles before the morning,
And further still to go before the day.
They say a crimson dawn means all the sailors should take warning,
But a black sky only means it's time for us to sail away.

They say a crimson dawn means all the sailors should take warning,
But a black sky only means it's time for us to sail away.
